Join Melissa Wong to take a deep dive into creating accessible slide decks. Participants will learn to use layout and reading order to create a slide deck that is compatible with screen readers and then learn to select and implement (or remediate) a slide design that supports visual and cognitive accessibility.
Beyond slide design, the webinar will address speaking practices that support accessibility in presentations. Participants will have the option to download a sample slide deck and follow along with basic remediation practices.
Participants will be able to:
- Use layout and reading order to create a slide deck that is compatible with screen readers.
- Select and implement an accessible slide design.
- Identify speaking practices that support accessibility in presentations.

About Melissa
Melissa Wong is an adjunct instructor in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she teaches courses on instruction and e-learning. An experienced instructional designer, she also consults for companies and educational institutions. Her work focuses on learner-centered design, online course development (synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid), and accessibility.
Melissa is the co-editor of Reference and Information Services, 7th edition (Libraries Unlimited, 2024) and co-author of the open access textbook Instruction in Libraries and Information Centers: An Introduction (Windsor & Downs Press, 2020). Her book Instructional Design for LIS Professionals (Libraries Unlimited, 2019) is a guide for faculty teaching graduate courses in library and information science.
Melissa has an M.S. in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) credential from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals.
